WEST END STATE OF ORIGIN SLOWDOWN
3 October 2011
South Australia secured a dramatic, last-gasp one-point victory to win the State of Origin Slowdown at Adelaide Oval.
In a highly entertaining and end-to-end match, it was left to Darren Jarman to kick the winning goal with the final kick of the game, sending the home supporters into raptures.
Both sides' players showed glimpses of the quality that made them icons of the game on a warm afternoon in front of a healthy crowd of about 12,000.
Jarman and Victoria's Nathan Thompson were the leading goalkickers on the ground with four goals each, with Gavin Wanganeen, Brett Burton and Tony Modra kicking two each for South Australia.
Brendan Fevola was awarded the Slowdown Medal for best on ground.
Fevola said players from both sides were still able to show their skills despite their age.
